Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Monsta X or Starship Entertainment. All thoughts are my own and are based on my observations and the results I received from this survey.

Are you excited to get into the actual results of the survey? I sure am. As I’ve said multiple times I’m going to be doing a little analysis of the survey, and the first category that I’m going to be presenting is the Demographics category. If you don’t know what demographics are they are things like, age, gender, what language someone speaks, where they’re from etc. In this category there are a total of 12 questions that I asked Monbebe and here are the answers!

First we can see that the majority of the Monsta X fans who took this survey are Female (89.6%) which is something I think most people probably thought would be the outcome, 4.4% Male, 4.2% identifying as Non-Binary (defined as: any gender that is not exclusively male or female), 1.2% preferred not to answer, and the 0.5% who answered other wrote in mostly under Agender. I wasn’t surprised when the majority of the fans fell into the age group of 18 to 24 years old, mostly because myself and pretty much everyone I know who like any Kpop group falls in this age range. The one result that I was a little surprised about was the 30+ number being 3.7% while it’s not drastically high I didn’t think it’d be more than 1 or 2%. The Ethnicity pie chart is pretty self-explanatory, my only comment is that the 2% who identified as other wrote in as either Biracial, Mixed, or Arab. When compared to the 2017 Monbebe Global Survey Ethnicity had the most common results, with Asian being the most picked answer, followed by White/European.

In my prediction post I referenced V-Live’s chart as to what countries followed Monsta X the most, those being: U.S.A, Indonesia, and Thailand. By reviewing my results we can clearly see the representation of the U.S.A (402 Monbebes) and Indonesia (86 Monbebes), but Thailand (8 Monbebes) were not represented in the top 10. Now this could simply be because it either didn’t reach many Thai Monbebe or there could have been a language barrier like I mentioned in my previous post. Again when compared to the 2017 Monbebe Global Survey both it’s results and my results where the same when it came to the top 4 countries that the Monbebe who took the surveys were from. These countries being the U.S.A (coming out at #1 in both surveys), Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. If I remember correctly Monsta X haven’t toured Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines so I think since in both surveys (especially since they happened pretty much a year apart) these came out in the top 4 answers they should try and get to them!

Also in my prediction post I thought that the three most common languages spoken would be English, Korean, and Japanese. Now, clearly I was wrong and thought I would have more reach to these (Korean & Japanese) Monbebes than I ended up having. (I say Korean and Japanese only because from observation these are their two main markets, as well as the U.S.A that Monsta X are in at the moment.) While English (456 Monbebe) did turn out to be one of the most common native languages, Korean (24 Monbebe) came in at #10 on the top 10 list and Japanese was only represented by 6 Monbebe.

The two questions above I had originally added because I thought it’d be a good indicator of how the survey was understood since it was written in both English and Korean. The one answer that really interested me the most was that 36.8% of Monbebe who took this survey are actively learning Korean, and that 42.8% want to learn but currently don’t speak Korean/aren’t learning. I think this is interesting mostly because by either being a fan of Monsta X (or Kpop) it has made people interested in learning a language that maybe they otherwise would of had no exposure to. I for one know that one of the main reasons I’m learning Korean is because I want to be able to watch things without subtitles, especially when it comes to VLIVES because while it can be fun to just sit and watch your favorite idol’s face if you can actually understand what they’re saying it’s going to be much more fun to watch live. I also think that when idols find out their non-Korean speaking fans are trying to learn Korean it means a lot to them because it could possibly decrease the pressure to communicate in so many different languages.

As expected because of the most common age range being 18-24 most Monbebes are college students (39.4%). All together more than 75% of Monsta X fans are in some way a student whether that be college (39.4%) graduate level (11.1%) or a high school student (29.9%). Since most Monbebe are students almost half (48.4%) don’t work and are only full time students, while equal amounts of Monbebe are either full-time workers, part-time workers, or don’t work at all. (These results will appear again later! Can you guess what question they might apply to?)

The answers to the above questions are some that fall under the self-explanatory category that I mentioned in ‘The Results Are In’ post. While there isn’t much for me to analyse with these answers I still think knowing them and presenting them can give Monbebe a better understanding of who makes up their fandom.

And that concludes the first post of the results! I plan to (hopefully) build upon each post, meaning that I’ll probably be referencing some of these results later on when I am going over other questions. It’s important to keep everything in mind and know that everything is relevant to one another in some way, shape, or form. Even if it something that I may not realise or write about, if you make your own connections between answers based on this information hold on to it!
