One of my favorite things to do is look for new music and since 2019 began I've been looking forward to all the new groups that would be debuting. So far (if I haven't missed one somewhere) there have been 12 groups and three to debut within the near future. Below I've listed those groups (8 boy groups & 4 girl groups) along with some basic information and any other thoughts I have on the group. Each video is their debut song unless otherwise stated. Hopefully, all of these groups get the love they deserve and can be successful! (If you couldn't tell I didn't include any solo debuts on this list, so it's just groups.)
Group: VeriVery (7 members)
Debut Date: January 9th 2019
Company: Jellyfish Entertainment
Ages: 1995 - 2003
VeriVery remind me so much of Astro when they first debuted and I think that's one of the biggest factors that really drew me to them since Astro is one of my favorite groups. VeriVery's debut song is so cute and I only found it because it randomly came on Spotify one day, but I'm glad I did. They are more on the poppier and cuter side but it fits them. Since their debut they've had one comeback with the title song From Now and released their second mini album [VERI-ABLE]. They are also playing at KCON NY in July!
Group: ONEUS (6 members)
Debut Date: January 9th 2019
Company: RBW Entertainment
Ages: 1995 - 2000
Twitter: Official
When it comes to my favorite group on this list it ONEUS and VeriVery are right next to each other. I was actually so surprised when I found out that ONEUS debuted this year, I thought they were an existing group because of how good they are. Their style of music matches what I like so well and I think that's why I like them so much. On their debut mini album LIGHT US my favorite song - other than their debut song Valkyrie has to be HERO. ONEUS are set to have their second comeback on May 29th 2019 with their second mini album <RAISE US>. I can't wait!
Group: Cherry Bullet (10 members)
Debut Date: January 21st 2019
Company: FNC Entertainment
Ages: 1996 - 2004
Twitter: Official
Cherry Bullet was the first girl group to debut this year with their first single album Let's Play Cherry Bullet including the title song Q&A. Their title song Q&A is very cute and the video is super fun. The 3 songs on their first single album are all very vocal heavy and besides Violet which is a little slower, are all upbeat and pop-py. Cherry Bullet recently performed at KCON Japan and are set to make their first comeback after their debut on May 22nd with their second single album [LOVE ADVENTURE].
Group: ITZY (5 members)
Debut Date: February 10th 2019
Company: JYP Entertainment
Ages: 2000 - 2003
Twitter: Official
ITZY is one of the fastest girl groups to gain so many wins on music shows with a total of 9 wins all together. Their debut track DALLA DALLA along with their second track WANT IT? on their first "album" IT'z Different are, well, really different compared to what JYP girl groups usually release. ITZY is definitely JYP's girl group that is so compete with BLACKPINK. While both groups are different, ITZY has a slightly more hip-hop vibe than JYP's other girl groups. I think they are a group to look out for. Currently they are not set to make a comeback but I think they will sometime this summer, probably July.
Group: TREI (3 members)
Debut Date: February 19th 2019
Company: Banana Culture
Ages: 1997 & 1998
Twitter: N/A
Instagram: Official
TREI originally started out as a duo in 2017 but in 2018 added their third and final member. They have two predebut tracks: UP (2017) and NIKE (2018) but finally made their debut with their first mini album BORN and title track Gravity. TREI is Banana Culture's first boy group, and second KPOP group next to EXID. TREI's album is a nice mix of vocals and smooth rapping. I'm glad making this post made me listen to the whole album but it's actually really nice and calming, in my opinion. TREI recently performed at KCON Japan and from what I could find don't have any future comebacks any time soon. (Banana Culture needs to make them a Twitter, I don't know why they don't have one.)
Group: Tomorrow X Together (5 members)
Debut Date: March 4th 2019
Company: BigHit Entertainment
Ages: 1999 - 2002
Tomorrow X Together (TXT) is BTS's junior group under BigHit. I will admit that some of their songs are super cute, and Our Summer from their first mini album The Dream Stage: STAR is one of my favorite so far this year. They're sound is somewhat similar to BTS's but not completely the same. They have a more youthful sound that most debut groups have. They have had a second comeback with the song Cat & Dog which is also from their first mini album. This summer they have their own U.S showcase tour from May 9th to May 24th, and are also playing at KCON NY in July!
Group: EVERGLOW (6 members)
Debut Date: March 18th 2019
Company: Yuehua Entertainment
Ages: 1998 - 2000
Of the girl groups who have debuted in the beginning of this year, I think EVERGLOW has to be my favorite. When I first heard Bon Bon Chocolat it reminded me of how I felt when I first heard Bad Boy by Red Velvet. It's such an addicting song and there is really just something about it that I think is so different when it comes to girlgroup songs, and KPOP songs in general. While there is nothing confirmed I think there is a possibility of them having another comeback in June. EVERGLOW is also scheduled to perform for KCON NY in the beginning of July.
Group: 1TEAM (5 members)
Debut Date: March 27th 2019
Company: Liveworks
Ages: 1994 - 2000
1TEAM debuted on March 27th with their first mini album HELLO! which includes three tracks: Vibe, COUNTDOWN, and 'BOUT U. Two of the members - Lee Hae Joon (Rubin) and Jin SungHo (BC) - were on the both BOY24 as well as MIXNINE. 1TEAM is also Liveworks Company first boygroup and KPOP group in general. I'm interested to see what they release in the future since their first album didn't leave that much of an impression on me. Although, VIBE is a cute little bop.
Group: 1THE9 (9 members)
Debut Date: April 6th 2019 (1 year)
Company: MBK Entertainment
Ages: 1999 - 2003
1THE9 is a promotional group who came from the trainee survival show 'Under Nineteen'. 1THE9 debuted with the song Spotlight on their first mini album XIX which also features the song Domino that Crush produced for the group. Out of all of the groups this was the only group that I actually knew was debuting this year and was looking forward to, since I watched 'Under Nineteen'. Their contract is for 12 months under MBK Entertainment. I really hope they can do well and get the recognition they deserve because they are all so talented! Currently, 1THE9 are still promoting on music shows but are scheduled to have their first fanmeeting <Hello, Wonderland> on June 8th.
Group: BVNDIT (5 members)
Debut Date: April 10th 2019
Company: MNH Entertainment
Ages: 1995 - 2000
Twitter: Official
BVNDIT debuted with a 3 song mini album under the title of BVNDIT, BE AMBITIOUS including the title song Hocus Pocus. Personally, this debut doesn't stand out to me but the song My Error has really nice vocals and would probably be the only song I'd listen to. Recently on May 15th they released another single called Dramatic which has a little more rap than their first single. This is MNH Entertainment's first girl group, and KPOP group since their only other artist is Chungha. Let's see what the future brings them.
Group: DONGKIZ (5 members)
Debut Date: April 23rd 2019
Company: Dongyo Entertainment
Ages: 1998 - 2002
Twitter: Official
DONGKIZ is Dongyo Entertainment's first boy and KPOP group. Currently DONGKIZ has one song NOM which they released at the end of last year but didn't make their official debut with until April 23rd. They have very few performances on music shows but there are some, but mostly they post to their Youtube channel and are doing some radio shows. This is the one group who has the most ~mystery around since they haven't released much of anything yet. I am curious to see what they do in the future. For now please watch their introduction video!
Group: Newkidd (7 members)
Debut Date: April 25th 2019
Company: J-FLO Entertainment
Ages: 1994 - 2003
Twitter: Official
Newkidd released two songs under the album title NEWKIDD one of which is their title song Tu eres. Many people may recognize one of the members from SM Rookies - Ji Hansol. Currently, they are still promoting with Tu eres. There isn't much on Newkidd as of right now so it'll be interesting to see what they do in the future.
The next few groups are groups who are set to debut sometime in the near future - whether it be within the month of May or sometime this summer!
Group: AB6IX (5 members)
Date to Debut: May 22nd 2019
Company: BRANDNEW Music
Ages: 1995 - 2001
If there is any other group that is probably as anticipated as TXT was it is AB6IX. AB6IX consists of 5 members, two of which were in Wanna One, and two who made up the duo MXM. The above video is the song that the BRANDNEW Music trainees performed for the second season of Produce 101 but performed by the new group AB6IX. They're set to debut o May 22nd with their first mini album [B:COMPLETE]. They have recently performed at KCON Japan, and is the last group in this list set to perform at KCON NY in July.
Group: WE IN THE ZONE (5 members)
Date to Debut: May 27th 2019
Company: Choon Entertainment
Ages: 1996 - 1998
WE IN THE ZONE is one of the three 'oldest' groups in this list when it comes to their members ages. Among the 5 members in this group one of them is Kim ShiHyun who was on the trainee survival show 'Under Nineteen'. They're set to debut on May 27th 2019 with their first mini album prologue1. From the very few videos they've posted to their Youtube channel I get the feeling of them wanting to exude a more mature vibe with their music.
Group: D1CE (5 members)
Date to Debut: TBA/Summer
Company: Happy Face Entertainment/D1CE Company
Ages: 1995 - 1997
Twitter: Official
D1CE is the group that I am most excited for that hasn't debuted yet. I can't even really remember how I found out about them but once I did I became so excited. D1CE consists of five members who have predebut releases under the name HNB. Since they don't have one with all five of them the video above is a fancam from a festival a couple of weeks ago. One of the predebut songs is You are so beautiful by the members Woo Jinyoung, Park Woodam, and Jung Yoojun. The second predebut song is called Falling in Love by the members Woo Jinyoung and Kim Hyunsoo. One of the reasons I'm most excited for this group is because of Kim Hyunsoo, whose voice I immediately fell in love with. The only member who is set to debut who is not in either of the predebut songs listed above is Jo Younggeun who participated in the song called I'm your light.
Group: Treasure13 (13 members/2 units)
Date to Debut: TBA
Company: YG Entertainment
Ages: 1999 - 2005
Twitter: Official
Treasure13 is from YG's survival show Treasure Box. While the whole group is set to debut as 13 YG himself posted a blogpost saying that they would be spilt into two units later on - Treasure (7 members) and Magnum (6 members). According to this post I found they are set to debut sometime this summer but nothing has been confirmed as of yet, nor have they really posted much on the official Twitter page. Hopefully this group gets the attention from the company that they deserve and they are able to hold a different image from the normal YG image of hip-hop - in my opinion anyways.
There you have it! Those are the groups that have debuts so far in 2019 - hopefully I didn't miss any and if I did, I'm sorry! I wonder what the second half of 2019 will bring us! What group are you most excited for from this list, or that is set to debut this year?
